From the desk of your Health Care District School Nurse:

Protect you and your family against the “stomach bug” and other contagious illnesses.  There are highly contagious viruses that can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Each year nationwide, norovirus contributes to about 56,000 to 71,000 hospitalizations and 570 to 800 deaths. The elderly and young children are especially vulnerable. Viruses can be spread by people who are sick or can live on objects and surfaces for days or even weeks.

Tips to Help Prevent the Spread of Viruses

  • Always wash your hands carefully with soap and water, especially after using the toilet or changing diapers and before eating, preparing or handling food.

*Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be used in addition to handwashing. But they   should not be used as a substitute for washing with soap and water.

  • Wash fruits and vegetables and cook seafood thoroughly
  • When you are sick, do not prepare food or care for others
  • Clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces

*After throwing up or having diarrhea, immediately clean and disinfect contaminated  surfaces using a chlorine bleach solution (5-25 tablespoons of household bleach per  gallon of water).

  • Wash laundry thoroughly

There is no vaccine to prevent these types of infections and medications including antibiotics do not work on viruses.  It is important to drink plenty of liquids to replace fluid loss and prevent becoming dehydrated.  Contact your healthcare provider for an evaluation, especially if you or someone you are caring for is at risk or showing signs of dehydration.

PBCHS student named the new Student School Board Representative!

Gabriella Hotaling, a senior at Palm Beach Central High School, was recently named the new Student School Board Representative. Hotaling made her debut at the Board meeting on September 27.

Hotaling is going into her third year as a student government representative, and decided to take on the position of Student Board Representative because of her passion for making change and ensuring that students’ voices were well represented.

The student representative position allows Hotaling to be the voice of Palm Beach County students, taking their input and opinions to put before the Board and community. Read more...

Palm Beach Central's Drama Department is in Full Swing!

This year, we have an action packed season prepared for you! Starting off strong in the
Fall with our Night of One Acts, we will have a wonderful night of performances by our Acting
Master class. In November, Palm Beach Central will be invaded by an intergalactic man-eating
plant in the musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors. Our Holiday Prism concert in December will
take the audience on a fun-filled tour of the world’s holiday activities along with music from the
PBC Band and Chorus. Starting off 2018 will be the hilarious “show-within- a-show” musical, The
Drowsy Chaperone. Rounding out our season in May, the Bronco Players will team up with the
IND department to bring you musical numbers from Seussical Jr. in the Sound of Central. We
hope to see you at all of our great shows this year!

School Volunteers

All prospective volunteers must complete a School Volunteer application on a secure school computer. A computer is set up in the front office of the school for just this purpose. Please do sign in and out each time you are on campus to volunteer.

This is the way we can track volunteerism on campus and it also serves as a security measure for our school. Also, all field trip and athletic trip drivers must be approved school volunteers.

Your time, talent and efforts as a school volunteer are invaluable and are so appreciated by the staff and students! Your volunteerism has won PBCHS Golden School and Five Star School recognitions in past years. THANK YOU!

For more information about becoming a school volunteer, please contact Mrs. Donna Baxter, Student Activities Director at 561- 433-7929 or donna.baxter@palmbeachschools.org.
